Background
The Excellence in People Management (EPM) Programme formed part of Birmingham City Council's wider Business Transformation Programme. EPM enabled the council to transform the way the council worked in order to deliver excellent services to the people of Birmingham.
Solution
EPM provided the people management tools to support the council to achieve consistent and substantial performance improvement thereby ensuring managers were empowered to make better managerial decisions and employees were clear about how they contributed to the council’s goals. Capita Learning & Development was tasked with providing the learning support (both elearning and classroom based workshops) for the EPM programme within Birmingham City Council. Learning interventions provided within this programme included an interactive online conference facility for managers, Ongoing support for personnel development review (PDR) champions, reviewee guidelines for staff taking their PDR, and coaching sessions to support senior managers assessing and developing their PDR skills.
Also provided were SAP workshops for Birmingham City council staff on over sixty course titles including: employee payroll processing, managing organisational units, health and safety administration, managing attendance and absence and recruitment for people managers.
Results achieved
Successful implementation of EPM throughout Birmingham City Council including a 300% increase in the number of Personal Development Reviews being undertaken and over 2000 Birmingham City Council staff trained in SAP procedures as part of the SAP Human Capital Management (HCM) SAP implementation.
