The Postgraduate diploma in internal communication management is run in conjunction with the Kingston University Business School and Communicators in Business (CiB).

Who is it for?

This one year postgraduate programme is for internal communication specialists. The qualification has been developed in response to widespread demand for professional accreditation for internal communication specialists.

Learning content

The programme is designed to give participants a full understanding of a number of key themes as well as the ability to apply a wide range of effective practical approaches to different situations. At the end of the programme, participants will be able to:

§          Understand the new communication environment; evaluate the effects of organisational culture and structure on internal communications; understand the issues involved in communicating in an international environment; clearly define the role and necessary skills of an internal communications manager

 

§          Manage internal communication; understand the political significance of internal communication; determine the impact of changes in labour markets and working practices; use internal communication to facilitate organisational change

 

§          Manage people involved in internal communication; understand and meet the different needs of internal customers; influence people at all levels; negotiate with customers in order to deal with conflicting demands; effectively lead an internal communication team; select and manage suppliers of internal communication services

 

§          Design and deliver effective communication strategies; understand the ways in which people receive and accept information; identify appropriate internal communication objectives, strategies and policies; critically evaluate the cost of high and low technology methods and media; select and use the right communication approaches to achieve objectives in the most effective way; structure and manage efficient communication projects

§         
Evaluate internal communication; monitor and maintain high quality communication on a continuous basis; evaluate all aspects of internal communication including the performance of the internal communication team; draw up a cost benefit analysis of the internal communication function; anticipate and address issues for the future; produce an action plan for continuous learning and performance improvement.

Course content

The programme comprises of an Induction day, four modules and a final project. Each module consists of a workshop (including expert speakers and topical case studies) and an assignment that participants can immediately apply at work. Participants will be expected to spend a total of two working weeks attending workshops spread over a twelve-month period. Participants will be assessed on the basis of all of the assignments and a final project.

Successful participants who achieve the Postgraduate diploma in internal communications will be eligible to continue their development, if they wish, by moving on to the Master of Arts (MA) in Internal Communications with
Kingston University.
