Introduction to CHAMPS2®

CHAMPS2® supports the effective delivery of transformational change. In doing so it minimises the risks associated with high profile and radical programmes by following a tried and tested set of steps organised into phases.

Capita Learning & Development's 'Introduction to CHAMPS2' training course is based on the 2010 edition of the CHAMPS2 manual: 'CHAMPS2 - Realising Transformational Change'. This is an informative one-day overview of the method, providing delegates with an insight into the fundamental concepts of applying such a method as CHAMPS2 to radical change programmes, in order to create better products and services, whilst using resources more efficiently.

Pre-requisites

The one-day 'Introduction to CHAMPS2' course has no pre-requisites. However, those delegates who already have experience of managing programmes or who work within transformational change environments may well find they have an advantage when it comes to understanding the course concepts.

Introduction to CHAMPS2 and transformational change - this session looks at some of the challenges facing organisations to deliver more results with fewer resources. It also outlines the underlying structure of CHAMPS2 in terms of the phases and stages.

Phases 0-7CHAMPS2 comprises eight phases through which the organisation accumulates information and knowledge. It starts with the identification of the strategic need, the Vision and the strategic outcomes – in other words the issues or opportunities the organisation wants to address and the results it wants to see. Phases 0-7 take the organisation through a logical process designed to:

  • Justify a full business case - the business case is based on strategic needs and is designed to show how predetermined strategic outcomes and benefits can be delivered.
  • Design the transformational solution – the CHAMPS2 solution considers organisation-wide processes, the organisation structure (including location and property) and technology.
  • Monitor progress against the benefits required by the organisation – at the centre and running through the full scope of the transformation process are the benefits that make the transformation worthwhile. Within CHAMPS2, benefits are identified, validated, enabled and realised.
  • Ensure that the method will be effective in the context of the organisation - the Quality Management Framework is used to assure quality, direction and control and is the mechanism by which teams can tailor the specific activities required for each programme.
  • CHAMPS2 governance including gates and products, strategies, roles and responsibilities.
