Under plans already being considered staff would have to work for two years before lodging unfair dismissal claims, twice as long as present. Employers face bills of £8,500 to defend employment tribunal claims when those that settle can cut the cost to £5,400, research by a business group has found. The findings come as business groups led by the CBI and British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) have begun lobbying the Government to reform the employment tribunal system, which they claim is “broken”. They are calling for employees to be required to pay a fee or deposit when making a claim that is refundable if they win to deter individuals bringing cases with little merit.
