A new consultation period has been launched to decide the future of proposals which would allow employees to request time off from their usual duties in order to take further training. The extra education would "help them (the employee) to be more productive and effective at work, and that helps their employer to improve productivity and business performance." The right was introduced in April 2010 and applies to employees who have been in their position for more than 26 weeks and work for a business with more than 250 employees.
