Women make up only a third of IT workers in Europe

A recent study has found that the information technology sector is not doing enough to attract and retain female staff. The results of the Europe-wide survey showed that only one-third (35%) of workers in the IT industry are women. However, this situation looks set to change in the future, with more and more women entering the IT sector in years to come.

Another finding of the survey showed that 49% of women believe that working benefits and conditions in IT are in need of improvement, and 51% of women in the UK stated that they believed that working conditions were not equal for men and women. Across Europe as a whole, 90% of female respondents felt that women’s performance in IT jobs is equivalent to that of men and 81% believed that employers should do more to encourage a more representative ratio of the sexes in their IT departments.
