The future for the jobs market is looking brighter, with figures showing that the number of people finding new jobs rose during August.

It is the first time in 17 months that permanent job appointments have increased, according to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and KPMG Report on Jobs.

There was also a slight increase in the number of temporary staff appointments, the first rise since July 2008.

The index, which measures the number of recruitment consultants reporting an increase in people placed in permanent jobs, stood at 50.6, with 50.1 representing an increase.
