Whatever role you play in an organisation you are probably juggling many different tasks and projects simultaneously. And often, it can take longer to achieve these goals than it really should. This is ineffective time management. This may be jumping from task to task, dealing with interruptions and saying ‘yes’ to too many things.
In reality time management is all about prioritising effectively and knowing how to deal with time wasters that you encounter on a daily basis. Our Time management training courses provide you with the tools to manage your working day and projects more effectively. We currently run two time management courses:
Time management and Time management for support staff.
For a taster of the Time management course, view our expert advice from our Time management trainer - Top tips for effective time management.
One of our top 20 training courses, here is some feedback from previous delegates who attended the Time management course:
”Relaxed and comfortable approach. Very concise and easy to follow. Visual was just right. Content very applicable and arranged in an easy to follow manual.”
Display Manager, Harvey Nichols
Simon Chaffer from Accenture, attended a variation of our Time management course (More Time, Less Stress) – see below to find out how he put his new time management skills into practice at work.

A delegates' perspective
Capita Learning & Development are continually listening to delegate feedback. Since this article was written, ‘More time, less stress’ has been reformatted into two new courses, to fit the needs of attendees, these are:
Time management and Stress management
Simon Chaffer, an IT Network Administrator for Accenture, attended Capita Learning & Development’s “More time, less stress” course (now called Time management). Since going on the course Simon has found his working life has improved considerably. At the end of the day, Simon commented,
“A lot of interesting and useful points were covered in a very natural way and delegates were encouraged to actively participate in discussion throughout”.
Simon’s role in IT means that he constantly has to manage a mix of proactive and reactive tasks in an incredibly high-pressured environment. With over 1,000 IT users to support, Simon faces interruptions and urgent requests on a daily basis and has many ongoing projects to manage at the same time.
“I realised that I was not able to complete as many tasks as I planned to in a day, and as part of my own personal development, I wanted to find a solution instead of letting it get out of control.”
Having discussed his options with his line manager, Simon decided to book on Capita Learning & Development’s “More time, less stress” course, as the location and choice of dates were a huge advantage to him.
The one-day course is designed to help people working under pressure in hectic work environments to manage their time proactively and achieve better results and this met Simon’s needs exactly. The day was split into a number of areas, with great emphasis on delegate participation. Delegates were encouraged to identify time stealers and to discuss each other’s responses and possible paths to take with expert advice of the trainer.
Simon commented, “There was a lot of emphasis on personal experience and real life situations. It was a very nice atmosphere, which was conducive to discussion. It didn’t claim to magically solve problems but instead to put them into perspective.”
It has now been nearly three months since Simon attended the course and he has already seen the benefits back in the office through the constructive use of tools and techniques he picked up on the day.
“There are some things you can change and some you can’t and now I try to focus on those I can. I have found some of the tools for prioritising work have helped keep things manageable over time. I have also realised that many people experience the same obstacles that waste time or cause distractions. Awareness of these situations makes you better able to deal with them.”
